Lapidary Service

Ceylon Blue Gems work on all colored gemstones, precious and semi precious. Our master cutters have 25 years of experience and provide quick, quality service. In addition, expert workmanship and great pricing is our pledge to our valued customers.

Cutting

Ceylon Blue Gems has a team of highly trained lapidaries who are happy to fashion your gemstone into any shape according to your requirement as well as repairing or re-polishing a gemstone to its original condition. The master craftsmen in our team have worked on extremely expensive stones. We are happy to guide you through the possibilities.

Polishing

Polishing is the ‘art of making things shiny’, to put a natural luster to a gemstone.  Our

team of highly skilled craftsmen use polishing to make the surface of the gemstone feel smooth and bring out the colours of the gemstone. In different gemstones polishing enables the naked eye to see into the gemstones; it shows off any internal inclusions. However, on transparent gemstones it allows you to see the polishing surface on the back of the stone, and in turn reveals the other face at the front of the stone.

Heat Treatment

Heating is one of the most common treatment available at Ceylon Blue Gems. It can cause the color of a stone to lighten, darken, or change completely. It can bring about an improvement in clarity and brightness. Heating is detectable only by trained observers in a laboratory setting and is usually irreversible under normal conditions. Unheated rubies and sapphires will contain microscopic rutile needles or tiny gas bubbles in pockets of liquid which are evidence that laboratories can use to guarantee that these stones have not been heated. If these gems are the finest colour they will command premium prices due to their extreme rarity. Some of the gems which we routinely heat treat are Tanzanite, Citrine, Pink Topaz, Aquamarine, Paraiba Tourmaline, Apatite, Ruby, Sapphire and Zircon (Both Blue and Colorless).
